Mental Health and Wellbeing
At Wardley Primary School, we are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of all of our pupils and staff to ensure that the school is a community where everyone feels able to thrive. Positive mental wellbeing is essential if children and young people are to flourish and lead fulfilling lives.
At our school, we know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make them vulnerable and at times anyone may need additional emotional support. We strive to ensure that our children develop strategies to help them promote their own emotional wellbeing as well as making sure they know what to do when they need someone to talk to about their mental health.
Our whole school ethos at Wardley Primary is centred around creating a positive mindset and developing resilience in our children so that they can feel good about themselves and become the best that they can be. During our wellbeing week at the beginning of term ,as well as during PSHE lessons and assemblies, children are taught about the '5 ways to wellbeing' and encouraged to use them to aid their emotional health. These are; connecting with others, continuing to learn, keeping active, being mindful and giving to others.
We work with a range of external agencies such as NHS RISE, NSPCC, Northumberland Police and HSBC who come into school and work with children across the school to enhance their mental health and wellbeing.

Different levels of support
Universal Support - To meet the needs of all our pupils through our overall ethos and our wider curriculum.
Additional support - For those who may have short-term needs and those who may have been made vulnerable by life experiences such as bereavement. These children are offered additional support through TA interventions and support from services such as NHS RISE.
Targeted support - For pupils who need more differentiated support and resources or specific targeted interventions from services such as NHS RISE or Kalmer Counselling.
If you are ever worried about your child’s mental health and wellbeing then come and talk to us. Sometimes children will need additional support for a short period – this may be in the form of a daily check-in with a trusted adult, time to talk through what they are feeling and support in developing ways of moving forwards with this.
